Case Against Acids

Back to Safety Page

Ill-Health Effects from exposure to commonly used acids are well known. Skin and Eye Contact causes varying degrees of irritation and sometimes injury to cell tissue. Inhaling toxic fumes affects the mucous membranes, throat and respiratory tract.

Workplace Injuries
Many everyday cleaning products contain acids as a primary ingredient. A joint project by the US EPS (Environmental Protection Agency), California state and local officials came up with the following statistic:

41 percent of cleaning chemicals are dangerous and 6 percent are too dangerous to use, including many toilet bowl cleaners.
USA cleaners and custodians are among the top five most injured workforces. The US Labor Department provides the following statistic:

Seven percent of all injuries to private sector janitors and cleaners causing lost work time in 1999 were the result of accidents involving chemicals."
An ENVIROGEN salesperson states:

" All of my customers who were using acid (usually phosphoric) in the past have switched completely over to ENVIROGEN. Reason being it does the same job and it's safe!"
Harmful to the Environment.
Acid cleaners create waste disposal problems. Corporate compliance with government and industry safety and environmental regulations has become costly. Non-compliance even more so, usually incurring substantial penalties.
